James Maker Archive
About this Archive

Administrative/Biographical History:
James Maker was singer and lyricist with Indie pop group, Raymonde. He later fronted the hard rock group, RPLA, who, after signing to EMI Records, cut their long hair and reemerged wearing suits and Vivienne Westwood court shoes. A ‘rock and roll swindle’, hard rock fans were not ready for their ambisexual approach. “One of us is gay; one of us bisexual; another is hetero-flexible, and the other has unnatural feelings for Princess Anne.”
In 2017, James published his Polari First Book Prize-winning memoir, AutoFellatio, which follows his journey from a teenaged and visible New York Dolls devotee in the then-badlands of the Old Kent Road, through the tumultuous 1980s, the wild party years of the 1990s with a brief excursion into acting, ending with his hispanophilic relocation to Spain
