Booking Terms and Conditions
Ticket Conditions of Sale
All audience members must hold a valid ticket. This may be a digital receipt of purchase or printed PDF. Tickets must be kept until the end of the event as they may be needed for readmission. For some events (e.g. swing, dance and music) we issue a wristband or handstamp, which must be worn by the attendee for the duration of the event. In most cases our reception team will check names from an attendance list, but it’s important to still bring proof of purchase for your ticket in case of any administrative discrepancies.
If you have claimed a concessionary rate you make be asked for proof of eligibility (e.g. student card, or proof of age). Find out more about our concessionary rates.
All our events and courses are designed for over-18s only. With prior permission, under-18s may attend certain seated public events such as concerts and talks, but only if accompanied by an adult. Guidance regarding event suitability for under 18s is stated on each event webpage. Please contact enquiries@bishopsgate.org.uk for further information.
Latecomers will be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance, to limit disturbance to fellow audience members and speakers/performers. Occasionally late admittance may not be possible and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
Bishopsgate Institute does not permit the use of audio and visual recording devices, including mobile phones, cameras and tape-recorders, during our performances or events.
Ticket holders consent to the filming, photographing and sound recording of themselves as members of the audience.
Ticket Refunds and Exchanges
All tickets are non-refundable. For regular events (e.g. social dances) a ticket can be exchanged for a different night, up to five days before the date on the ticket. In some instances, if all tickets have been sold for an event, we may be able to resell your ticket and give you a refund. This is at the discretion of the management. In all cases, the original tickets must be returned to the venue.
Bishopsgate institute does not permit the resale of tickets for profit or commercial gain. Tickets cannot be re-sold on the venue premises or the immediate vicinity at the time.
Management reserves the right to:
Bishopsgate Institute reserves the right to refuse admission, or request a ticket holder to leave the venue if we believe their presence is likely to cause a disturbance or threat to other visitors, the venue and its employees. We will take any appropriate action to enforce this right.
Bishopsgate Institute reserves the right to make changes to the advertised programme due to unavoidable causes without being obliged to offer a refund or exchange.
We also reserve the right to cancel or abandon the event for reason beyond our control. We can do this without notice, and without being liable to pay compensation for damages other than a refund to the value of the ticket.

Courses Terms & Conditions
By applying to enrol, you agree to the terms and conditions stated here. Please make sure you’ve read and understood them.
I hereby agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institute, including the refund and transfer policy. I agree to the Institute processing my personal data, or other data which the Institute may obtain from me or other people whilst I am a student, for purposes connected with my studies, my health and safety or for any other legitimate reasons.
Bishopsgate Institute is registered under the Data Protection Act (No. Z6850408).
Courses Refunds and Transfers
Students may be granted a refund or transfer up to two weeks before the start of the course, but these will only be offered under very exceptional circumstances.
All refund and transfer requests must be received in writing. Please contact a member of our team by email enquiries@bishopsgate.org.uk or call 020 7392 9200.
Course and Class Cancellations
If enrolments fail to reach minimum numbers we may cancel or reschedule a course. Courses will normally be cancelled one day before the first class. A full refund will be made or a transfer arranged.
If a tutor is unable to teach a class we will try to arrange a substitute. When this is not possible, we will reschedule classes to an alternative convenient time. Refunds are not available for students unable to attend the rescheduled class.
Should a class be cancelled for reasons beyond our control (e.g. flood, adverse weather conditions, security alert) we regret that no refunds will be given for the missed class.
Students should claim their refund within 30 days of the date on which the course was cancelled. After this time, their refund will be converted to credit automatically.
Reading Room Terms of Use
Our Reading Room study space is located in our Front Library. We aim to provide a calm place for people to get on with some quiet work.
We’re offering this space as part of Bishopsgate Institute, an independent charitable organisation established in 1894 and open to the public.
When you book a Reading Room slot, you are agreeing to these Terms of Use.
To make sure the space is a welcoming and peaceful environment for everyone, we need you to comply with the following, please:
Book a Reading Room slot either in advance via our website, or by booking in with our reception team on the day.
No eating in the Reading Room. Only bottled water is permitted.
Switch your devices to silent, including notifications and social media, and leave the Reading Room to take any phone calls or to join online meetings.
Keep talking to a minimum so as not to disturb other users. The Reading Room is for independent, individual study only.
Treat our staff, and other space users, with courtesy and respect. We have a Zero Tolerance Policy for any action or behaviour in our building that is threatening, demeaning or disruptive. We will remove any disorderly or intoxicated person from the space or any part of the Institute.
Children under 18 are not allowed in the Reading Room.
Don’t leave your belongings unattended. Bishopsgate Institute accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage.
Large bags and suitcases are not allowed.

We have a limited number of power sockets intended for charging laptops/mobiles/tablets. Please use one power socket at a time.
There are no printing or photocopying facilities available.

If you need to bring your Assistance Dog, you’ll need to tell us whether the service animal is required because of a disability and confirm what work or task the dog has been trained to perform. No dogs or other animals are allowed in Bishopsgate Institute, apart from Assistance Dogs.
When we tell you that the Reading Room is closing, please leave promptly.
Don’t attempt to remain in the Reading Room after an emergency situation has been made known to you.
When the study space is closed, and letting you know
We won’t always be able to offer the Reading Room , and reserve the right to close it at any time. We’ll use the contact email you provide when you book to update you on any imminent closures to save you the journey.
City of London information we need
We would also like to know if you work in the City of London, or if you live in the Square Mile, because the funders we are approaching for support in order to open the space and keep it open require us to capture this information. No other data is required, so we won’t ask for it.
Thank you for your help and cooperation to keep our Reading Room calm, welcoming and stress-free for everyone.
We hope you enjoy the Reading Room, and if you have any comments, please speak to a member of staff.
