About this Archive

Gayscene was a free monthly gay and drag scene magazine was produced by Jean Harvey between late 1972 and early 1973. Each issue began with comment by Harvey, along with regular columns, such as BeauEgo (offering male make up and health tips) and Cabaret Tit-bits. The magazine features regular reviews of contemporary drag acts and bars, and the occasional comment on political issues affecting the gay community at the time. There are also extensive adverts for gay-friendly bars and clubs, guest houses and bed and breakfasts around the country. Drag star Jean Fredericks is regularly featured with adverts and coverage of her famous Porchester Drag Balls.
