In the early twentieth century clandestine producers of pornography and erotic goods promoted their illegal erotic photos and goods through postal circulars and catalogues which customers read in their own homes. These catalogues promoted a number of rubber sex toys including dildos.

This lecture explores these advertisements and how sellers were openly courting engagement by women who slept with women. This lecture also investigates how the sapphic sexuality was commercially presented and exploited in a cultural-sexual landscape mediated by obscenity and indecency laws.

These revealing and rare print specimens provide an important glimpse into a hidden erotic history of lesbian sexuality.
