Wifi Terms of Use

 

Please read these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) carefully before using our Wi-Fi service (“Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and Conditions, and our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.  

 

Service Provision  

The Service is free for personal, lawful use only. We do not guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We may modify, suspend, or withdraw the Service at any time for security, maintenance, or operational reasons.  

 

Security & Your Responsibility  

  • This is an unsecured public Wi-Fi network. You use it at your own risk. We cannot guarantee protection from viruses or malicious attacks. Use your own security software. You are responsible for any activity carried out using your connection.  

 

Acceptable Use  

 
You must not use the Service:  

  • For unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purposes.  

  • To send or receive offensive, obscene, defamatory, or abusive material.  

  • To distribute malware, spam, or perform hacking attacks.  

  • In a way that infringes intellectual property rights or overloads the network.  

  • Access systems or networks without authorisation. 

  • Engage in commercial activity using the service. 

  • Use excessive bandwidth (e.g., by downloading/uploading large files that impact network performance). 

  • We reserve the right to block sites or restrict use if necessary for safety or compliance.  

 

Data Collection & GDPR Compliance  

We collect:  

  • Device identifiers (e.g., MAC address) for connectivity.  

  • Name and email for sign-in.  

  • Connection logs (date/time, device type)   

 

Monitoring & Privacy 

We may monitor device MAC/IP addresses, access times, and activity to maintain network integrity and comply with legal obligations. 

Information is processed according to the UK GDPR and our Privacy Notice. Logs may be shared with law enforcement where legally required. 

Your data is processed under UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, with the following lawful basis: 

  • Performance of a contract (to provide the Service).  

  • Consent (for marketing emails).  

  • Legitimate interest (network security and service improvement).  

  • Data retention: Connection logs are stored for (X days), marketing data until you withdraw consent.  

 

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:  

  • Access your data. 

  • Request correction or deletion. 

  • Withdraw consent for marketing.

Marketing Communications (Opt-In)  

You can choose to receive Reading Room updates by ticking the opt-in box during registration.  

Consent is voluntary and can be withdrawn anytime by emailing (unsubscribe email) or using the unsubscribe link in emails.  

 

Cookies  

We use cookies only for session continuity and user language preferences.  

No personal data is collected. 

We do not use cookies for marketing or tracking.

Limitation of Liability  

The Service is provided “as is” without any warranties.  

We are not liable for:  

  • Data loss or unauthorised access.  

  • Service interruptions or errors.  

  • Loss of income, business, or goodwill.  

  • This does not affect your statutory rights or liability for death/personal injury caused by negligence.  

 

Termination  

We may suspend or terminate the Service at any time without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately.  

 

Governing Law  

 
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
