Online courses in LGBTQIA+ culture and history
This autumn, Dr Emily Garside is back to offer a suite of online workshops and multi-session courses delving into different aspects of LGBTQIA+ culture, activism, popular culture and history.
Wherever you are in the world, you just need an internet connection, device or computer and a Zoom account to be able to join the group - perfect when you have a lot to juggle, are not in London and / or don't fancy having to change out of your PJs to take part.
Ever wanted to delve into the TV worlds of Schitt's Creek, Queer As Folk and Brookside? To wallow in the literary storytelling of everyone from Sarah Waters to Oscar Wilde? To explore queer writers for the stage such as Tony Kushner or Tennessee Williams? Or is musical theatre more your thing, and you're itching to spend time with shows you know (Rent) and maybe ones you don't...?
Are you interested in the history of activism, including in response to the AIDS crisis, and what we can learn from LGBTQIA+ acts of rebellion and protest through the centuries?
Using materials from our special collections and archives, plus clips and extracts, Emily will lead your journey of discovery and learning, encouraging responses, reflections and experiences from the group. Some courses are stand-alone single events, and others are multi-week, enabling you to delve even deeper.
