Private Hire

Bishopsgate Institute is always honoured to host private events, occasions and celebrations. Your Event Planner is there to support you from your first enquiry, ensuring the smooth running of your event.

Choose from three private event spaces in our Grade II* listed building. The Great Hall provides the perfect backdrop for dinners and dancing and features a stage, full lighting rig and sound system, and in-house AV support. The Upper Hall is a blank canvas, the perfect backdrop to your unique event. For more intimate gatherings, The Library is full of character and is a standout example of Bishopsgate Institute’s architectural influences.

Our trusted caterers offer a variety of seasonal dining options, all of which are sustainably sourced and creatively served.

Staying safe

We are following all government guidance with regards to gatherings. While we want to help make your event as successful as possible, we also need to prioritise the safety of everyone in the building. We require all our hirers and guests to follow our safety protocols. Please do talk to us if you’d like to learn more.

#FROMTHE ARCHIVES

Married in 1950, Chris and Betty Birch have been involved in political, trade union, and LGBTQ+ activism for over 60 years. Sharing similar interests, they were both Communist Party Members and involved with organisations such as the Aid to Spanish Youth Committee. After the death of his friend, Mark Ashton, Chris became involved in forming the Mark Ashton Memorial Trust, which was created to raise money for individuals living with HIV. The archive includes the truncheon taken from the police by Mark Ashton, correspondence, personal scrapbooks, press cuttings, and various other papers relating to the couples activism.
