Walking Tour - Boxing to Brutalism: Bethnal Green
This tour will take place in person and the meeting point is inside Bethnal Green tube station ticket office.
Explore its quiet backstreets to discover the origins of 'barmy', the home of 18th century Jewish boxing champion Daniel Mendoza, the glorious art deco splendour of the old Town Hall, a private war memorial, the Stairway to Heaven remembering a 1945 war tragedy, the People's Park and more. Ending at the Museum of Childhood, this tour really does have it all.
Who is this tour for?
Anyone who is interested in exploring London.
What can I expect?
This is a walking tour where the guide will lead you through the area. The terrain is flat, so the tour is suitable for those with mobility scooters and wheelchairs, but please note that the tube station only has stairs to exit the station. If you would prefer to meet the group at street level, please let Bishopsgate Institute know, and we will arrange accordingly. Please also note that the tour lasts around two hours, with no coffee or loo stops on the walk.
Will I need any equipment or materials?
You will need comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. It is always best to have a bottle of water with you too.
