We will explore podcast structure, formats, interview techniques, voiceover, scriptwriting, SFX and music, narrative structure, and advanced editing techniques.
We will also discuss how to promote your podcast and grow your audience. This course will be a mixture of theoretical and practical study with group discussion, video instruction, and hands-on work.
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who has already started their podcast journey and wants to power up their podcast. It’s also for those who have some episodes under their belt and are ready to launch.
Will I need any equipment or materials?
This course will be held via Zoom. You need a computer/laptop or mobile phone to access the Zoom website, and a reliable internet connection. For further information on how to join a Zoom meeting, you can watch the joining video here.
Participants will need a laptop and a piece of software called Audacity – a free open source audio-editing programme – downloaded ahead of time. You will need a mouse and headphones, ideally ear buds. You will also need either a dictaphone, smartphone or digital audio recorder, or a USB mic.
Will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment for courses at Bishopsgate Institute. However, to monitor your learning and progress, tutors will assess your participation in classroom activities.

- Write for the ear, including narrative structures, voiceover basics and how to use SFX and music
- Edit and analyse your own work critically
- Launch your podcast and grow your audience.
Meet the Tutor
Euan McAleece is a creative audio freelancer, producer, craft editor and consultant with training expertise. He is an advocate of digital media, podcasting and social networking, with a keen interest in new audio techniques, media theory, emerging technologies and platforms. Euan specialises in developing new formats for podcasting and show start-up for individuals and brands. He has worked on a number of high profile podcasts, and has experience with the BBC, commercial and community radio production.
