This event will take place both in person and online.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a rise in discrimination against Chinese people living in the UK. In this event, Qiuyan Chen and Jamie Chi will use their documentary film Safe Distance to examine the experiences of the Queer Chinese community in the UK during the pandemic, to draw attention to the dangers of discrimination and ostracisation, and to promote messages of kindness and empathy.
- The evening will consist of a screening of part of the film followed by a discussion.
- This event can also be followed via Zoom. You need a computer/laptop or mobile phone to access the Zoom website, and a reliable internet connection. For further information on how to join a Zoom meeting, you can watch the joining video here.
How we’re keeping you safe
Because we would like to keep the staff and each other safe, we expect and recommend face coverings to be worn the public areas that can become crowded. These are the corridors, toilet areas and the queues at the bar. There will also be an event-specific QR code that guests will be asked to scan on arrival.
If you test positive for Covid-19 or are asked to isolate and are not able to attend your class or pre-booked event, please contact the Bishopsgate Box Office for further information (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please do not come to the Institute in person if you have symptoms or have tested positive.
In addition to these measures, Bishopsgate Institute has strict cleaning protocols in place and ventilation throughout the building. There are also numerous hand-sanitising stations available and touch-free drinking fountains. Find out more about how we’re keeping you safe.

Gay Liberation Front
The Gay Liberation Front was revived in 2018, in time to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its origins at the Stonewall Uprising in 1969. Since then, we've been connecting our past and present with grassroots pride events, demanding decent care for our queer elders, and commemorating the Philadelphia Revolutionary People's Constitutional Convention, where the GLF was born, with our own convention here at Bishopsgate Institute in May 2021. 'Liberation Fronts' is a continuation of that revolutionary celebration, bringing you proud voices from across the radical community.
