This course aims to enhance your existing French language skills, enabling you to participate with confidence and accuracy in free discussions, debates and guided conversations.
Who is this course for?
This is the highest level we currently offer. Students will need to have French language skills equal or superior to A-Level standard.
Will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment for courses at Bishopsgate Institute. However, to monitor your learning and progress, tutors will assess your participation in classroom activities.
Meet the Tutor
Dr Elsa Damien
Dr Elsa Damien is a French and Italian teacher and a translator, who has gained her qualifications at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University and the École Normale Supérieure. She has taught in various UK academic institutions and has done extensive research on nineteenth-century history and literature, specialising in the birth of modern tourism. She is translating Italian fiction into French, in particular, Elena Ferrante’s novels. She has been teaching at Bishopsgate Institute since 2013.
Switchboard - the LGBT+ Helpline, was established in 1974 as 'London Gay Switchboard', taking its first call on 4 March. Switchboard was a key source of advice for the community who faced discrimination in all areas of life throughout the 1970s, as well as being at the forefront of AIDS awareness campaigns in the 1980s. Their archive includes log books, minutes, promotional material and much more.
