Latin Technique and Performance
You will discover the similarities and differences of the body movement in both dance styles. You do not need to bring a partner for this course. The beginning of the day will consist of solo work, and then you will be partnered with other participants in the class. You will be encouraged to dance with different partners to enhance the ‘lead and follow’ experience.
Will I need any equipment or materials?
Latin dance shoes will be helpful for the course. You are invited to wear suede-bottomed Latin shoes or high heels. If you don’t have Latin dance shoes, you can also wear black socks, ballet slippers or flat jazz shoes. Please wear comfortable fitting clothing that allows movement but will show your line.
Do I need any skills or knowledge?
Basic knowledge of rumba is helpful, but beginners are welcome. The fundamentals taught will be extremely helpful as you progress with your dancing. Intermediate and advanced dancers are welcomed to go ‘back to basics’, and will be encouraged to incorporate the skills into their standard of dancing.
You will learn
- Perform Ballet positions 1-5 with arms
- Understand Ballet alignments and posture
- Dance a basic grouping of international rumba
- Incorporating the ballet strength and positioning into Latin steps.
