
Tap Dancing: Absolute Beginners
With an approach that focuses on rhythm and expression, this will be a fun course for adult students of all ages.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for people with little or no experience of tap dancing.
Will I need any equipment or materials?
You are welcome to start the course in any comfortable, hard-soled shoes. However, we strongly recommended the purchase of tap shoes in order to get the most out of the course. Please wear comfortable clothing.
Teacher has excellent knowledge and skills. She is sensitive to needs of the group and she has developed a learning programme that is differentiated so no person is left behind and more experienced dancers continue to progress at a good pace and in a safe space.

Meet the Tutor

Annette Walker
Annette Walker is a tap dancer based in the UK who works with jazz musicians as well as with other dancers and performing artists. She has performed in numerous cabarets, festivals and special concerts such as ‘Turned on Tap’ at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre (London UK) and featured as a tap soloist in the 2019 BBC Proms Ellington’s Sacred Music that was broadcast worldwide on BBC radio and nationally on television. In teaching, she has hosted the Renegade Stage – a workshop introducing tap dancers to improvising at the jam – at the London Tap Jam since it started in 2006. Her unique Tap Dance Programme is built on years of knowledge and experience from working in dance schools, colleges and music organisations. Annette is a researcher and educator in tap history and is currently undertaking PhD research on the forgotten jazz choreographer, Buddy Bradley.
