
Walking Tour – Wonderful Women of Whitechapel
Hear the stories of such significant figures as Eva Luckes and Edith Cavell at the London Hospital; Monica Dickin, founder of the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals; and philanthropists Mary Hughes and Miriam Moses. The walk also explores locations related to contemporary figures such as gardener Lutfun Hussain and author Monica Ali.

What can I expect?
This is a walking tour where the guide will lead you through the area providing an informative, enjoyable and entertaining two hours. It is all on the flat so is suitable for those with mobility scooters, wheelchairs etc. There is step free access at Whitechapel station.
Practical information
You will need comfortable walking shoes. Please also note that the tour will last two hours with no coffee or toilet breaks.
It is always best to have a bottle of water with you too and appropriate clothing for the weather.
This route will begin outside Whitechapel station on Whitechapel Road. There is a very wide pavement and your guide, Rachel, will have a fluffy flower in her bag. Please assemble from 17:45 for a prompt start at 18:00.

Rachel Kolsky

Before embarking on her career as guide and lecturer, Rachel, a qualified librarian, was an information professional in the financial services industry for over 25 years. When not working or guiding she supports her local independent cinema, The Phoenix, East Finchley, where she was a Trustee for over 20 years. Rachel has published four books, Jewish London (2012), Whitechapel in 50 Buildings (2016), Secret Whitechapel (2017) and Women’s London (2018), and she is thrilled to have been a guest lecturer on cruises since 2009.
