Victorian writers Charles Dickens, Henry Mayhew and Thomas Beames wrote about London’s notorious “rookeries”, areas beset by crime where people lived in overcrowded slum conditions. These four walks explore the former rookeries of the Old Nichol (Shoreditch/Bethnal Green borders) , Saffron Hill, Bermondsey and St Giles to discover their history and find out how they have changed over the years.

Meeting point for the first tour: Shoreditch High Street Overground Station.
