Over the centuries artists have been eager to tell the story of London and its people in images, but there are many stories. Gustave Dore’s bleak illustrations of poverty in late Victorian London are far in time and place from Canaletto’s elegant views of Westminster, yet they picture the same crowded city.

**Due to unforeseen circumstances, this course has been cancelled.**
Some artists showed the plight of the poor, others concentrated on the excesses of the rich and others still on the landscape of the city itself.

This course will look at the huge variety in representations of the city, in painting, photography and prints.
