Literature has often been a source of strength for LGBTQ people, of validation or understanding, and a space to enjoy the beauty in same-sex attraction. Part historical overview and part literary analysis, this course will examine LGBTQ literature through the decades. Beginning with ‘hidden histories’ of queer literature forced to hide its identity, through the liberation era, the response to devastation from AIDS, towards contemporary works, this course will chart a history of LGBTQ literature.
