It's official - Swing Patrol and Bishopsgate Institute

We’ve been going steady for a while now so it’s time to make it official.

Bishopsgate Institute and Swing Patrol have been creating fantastic swing dance nights together in the Great Hall since 2012. We’ve also been delivering workshops and classes together, both as part of the Bishopsgate Institute programme and the Swing Patrol community.

Bishopsgate Institute is a learning and development organisation, so the taster lessons that kick off Swing Den and Bishopsgate Swing events are our bread and butter, as well as being a fundamental part of the Swing Patrol ethos.

We dream, we plot and we plan for other events we can deliver together and now there are so many ideas on the go, we’re formalising things: from September 2016, Swing Patrol will be Dancers in Residence at Bishopsgate Institute, and we will be Swing Patrol’s official Learning Partner.

What does that mean?
As well as continuing to run our regular swing dance nights, we’re upping the ante with even more activity at the Institute, including new regular SwingTrain classes and plans for Dance In A Day workshops. We are delivering two festivals together in 2017 – London Jump and The London Throwdown. And we hope to start hosting some rehearsals for the Swing Patrol performance troupes.

Although it’s probably something closer to tying-the-knot we’re actually going to be making our declaration by cutting of a ribbon at Bishopsgate Swing on Sunday 11 September to mark the opening of our next season of working together.  Scott Cupit, the man behind Swing Patrol, will be there to do the honours with the scissors on stage before Oliver’s Dime Notes get the evening swinging.

We’re also producing limited-edition Dancers in Residence pin badges for the occasion.
