Evening Concert: Solo 30x30 (Paul-André Fortier) / Sankorfa / Guildhall School of Music & Drama Composers
Six composers from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama have each developed their own musical responses to Paul-André Fortier's innovative dance piece, Solo 30x30.
These new pieces for percussion quartet and electronics will be publicly premiered with Fortier simultaneously performing his 30-minute dance, surrounded by the musicians.
This unique event takes Solo 30x30 out of its usual outdoor, urban environment and re-contextualises the dance amid the vibrant music it has inspired.
The evening performance will incorporate a short recital by the energetic percussion ensemble, Sankorfa (including Part One of Steve Reich's thrilling minimalist masterpiece, Drumming) alongside screenings of new films made by the artists Hannah Alton and Anne Harild.
A video installation and exhibition inspired by Solo 30x30 will also be on display at Bishopsgate Institute from Wednesday 3 October - Friday 9 November 2007.
Both the exhibition and concert are part of Dance Umbrella 2007, London's international festival of contemporary dance. For more information visit www.danceumbrella.co.uk.
