The Huguenots were members of the Protestant Reformed Church of France during the 16th and 17th centuries. Fleeing religious persecution during the 17th century, the Huguenots fled France relocating to Protestant nations across the world. The large community that settled in Spitalfields left an indelible mark on the area with a major weaving industry producing some of the finest work of the times.

To celebrate their talents and contribution, we present a series of events as part of The Huguenots of Spitalfields Festival. Events take place at various venues from 8 - 21 April 2013.

Explore our beautifully restored Grade II* listed historic building with Bishopsgate Institute's Library and Archives Manager Stefan Dickers. Combining elements of Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau styles with a typical Victorian style, find out more about the building and its architecture, history and unique Library and archive collections which includes extensive collections on Spitalfields and the surrounding area.
