Examining the English Civil War and its legacy, this talk highlights the flourishing of republican ideas and the brief experience of a republican government in England in the mid-17th century. Also explored is the subsequent powerful influence of the English revolution, not only on English politics but also internationally.

Dr Ted Vallance is a historian of early modern Britain and Reader in Early Modern History at the University of Roehampton. His publications include A Radical History of Britain: Visionaries, Rebels and Revolutionaries and The Glorious Revolution: 1688 - Britain's Fight for Liberty.
