Great London Thinkers: John Locke

Join Richard Baron at this open discussion and explore the ideas of John Locke.

John Locke (1632-1704), one of the greatest English thinkers, went to school at Westminster. After study at Oxford, he returned to London. He was involved in politics, as well as practising medicine. He fled to the Netherlands in 1683, but returned in 1689, and passed his last years in Essex. His arguments on human knowledge are still important in philosophy. His views on government strongly influenced the founders of the United States. We will take a selection of his ideas, and discuss how relevant they are today.

Richard Baron is a philosopher and author whose books include Projects and Values and Deliberation and Reason.

See also open discussions on Mary Wollstonecraft and Bertrand Russell.

This event is organised in partnership with Philosophy for All.
