Following sell-out shows in 2011, The Necks
return to Bishopsgate Institute for a very special one-off show.
Together for 25 years the Australian cult trio, The Necks, have enthralled audiences worldwide with their compelling style of improvisation. Defying orthodox description, not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, their music is regularly described internationally as, simply, unique.
Every Necks performance is a singular event, entirely improvised and working with the acoustics of the room. Featuring lengthy pieces of long-form improvisation which build in a mesmerising, epic fashion frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, their performances are never less than phenomenal.
"Absolutely riveting...how three musicians can sound like eighteen is a mystery... extraordinary magical sounds emerged from the ensemble...the way The Necks do this with acoustic instruments is nothing short of miraculous" Financial Times
"One of the greatest bands in the world" New York Times
"The Necks are masters“ The Guardian
Tickets: £17 in advance / £20 on door
This session is presented in partnership with Dalston’s cutting edge jazz and experimental music venue, The Vortex. Together we bring new and exciting live music to the Great Hall at Bishopsgate Institute as part of the Vortex City Sessions.
