Following the course of the River Wandle in South London from Croydon to Wandsworth. In contrast to the rivers flowing to the Thames from Hampstead, the Wandle is ‘mislaid’ rather than lost, so we shall be able to follow most of its course above ground. This is s story of heavy nineteenth-century industry, in which roughly 90 watermills powered, amongst other companies, the famous Merton mills of Liberty and Co. and Morris and Co.

Meeting point for 1st tour: East Croydon railway station – the main exit area opposite the trams stop.
