This short course explores the experiences of the men and women ‘left behind’ in London as the First World War drew to a close 1918. Using original historical materials from our special collections, including pamphlets, photographs, letters and ephemera, you will discover the daily realities of life on the Home Front from a range of perspectives. First-hand accounts written by pacifists, women war workers, active servicemen, grieving friends and bereaved parents offer an unusually personal and uniquely evocative introduction to the social history of a long, drawn-out conflict.
