During the 1960s London became the world capital of cool for an emerging youth market, with Time magazine dedicating an entire 1966 issue to ‘London: the Swinging City’. This course uses guidebooks, photographs, magazines and political ephemera from our library collections to revisit this colourful period in the city’s history. Topics include pop music, the women’s movement, street fashion, alternative cultures and shifting attitudes towards same-sex relationships. The subjects are examined through structured, self-directed research activities that allow you to immerse yourself in a progressive and idealistic age.
