Accessing the Special Collections

Bishopsgate Institute Special Collections and Archives can be viewed in the Researchers Area of our Library. There is no need to provide ID or book an appointment to view the collections. However, you will be asked to complete a short registration form on your first visit. Coats, bags, food and drink are not allowed in the Researchers Area, lockers are provided for free.

We retrieve Items on demand and fetches of archival or printed material only take a short time to complete. However, any items required for viewing during our 'Special Collections and Archives Lates' held every Wednesday evening must be ordered in advance as no material can be retrieved after 5pm. If you plan to arrive after 5pm, please contact us beforehand.

Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the Researchers Area. Those aged 12-17 may consult special collections if accompanied at all times by a responsible parent or guardian.
