Raphael Samuel Archive Cataloguing Project
Following a generous award from the Heritage Lottery Fund in February 2010, as part of the Institute's larger Capital Development , Bishopsgate Library are undertaking a project to catalogue the Raphael Samuel Archive to item level. The project will provide increased access to this invaluable resource for the study of history and politics in the twentieth century. This will include the creation of detailed descriptions of Samuel's own research papers, correspondence, oral history recordings, photographs and biographical papers. The collection in total contains 500 boxes covering every aspect of Samuel's life and career, and this project will provide access to the archive of one of the twentieth century's most important historians
The project will be completed in 2013 and the full catalogue will be made available via the Library's online public access catalogue.
Emma Cresswell, the Raphael Samuel Project Archivist, will post a series of updates on the progress of the project every six months highlighting interesting finds in Samuel's files.
